How Judd Builders Approaches Budgeting for a Custom Home
One of the first questions we hear from homeowners planning a custom home is, “How much is it going to cost?” It’s an important question, and one we believe deserves a thoughtful, detailed answer.
At Judd Builders, our budgeting process starts well before construction. We work closely with our clients to understand their priorities, refine the home design, and make selections that align with their vision and budget.
Rather than relying heavily on allowances, we work with our vendors and subcontractors to develop detailed pricing based on the plans, materials, and finishes selected for the home. This typically takes 45-60 days depending on the scope of the project, but it gives our clients a clearer picture of where their money is going and helps reduce surprises once construction begins.
We guide clients through the selection process and work to establish a realistic budget before finalizing the construction contract. Depending on the complexity of the project and how quickly decisions are made, this budgeting phase typically takes 40–60 days.
We know building a custom home is a significant investment. Our goal is to make the process as straightforward as possible by setting clear expectations, communicating openly, and helping clients make informed decisions along the way.
